James Hunn, Sr. was born in Lincoln County, Kentucky. He served in the United States Marine Corps. He has been active in numerous civic organizations including the NAACP, the Danville Boyle County African American Historical Society, and the Central Kentucky African American Cemetery Association. He is also a member of the 12th United States Colored Heavy Artillery re-enactment group, and works closely with Camp Nelson in Jessamine County, KY. James is a long-term member of AAGGKY.
